Blah, Blah, Blah

What can I say? My life is good and there is rarely a dull moment in my kidergarten class. I enjoy coming home at the end of the day, Andrew and I are doing well and it seems like we keep busy with friends and family.
So the reason for my infrequent blogging is because nothing truly exciting happens to me, which, as I see it, is a pretty good thing. I like predictible.
So, for those of you that post often, how do you get ideas for blogging? My mind just draws blank when I sit down to post. Ideas, anyone?

I struggle with the same thing. I always like to post and would love to share but most things I think of seem unimportant or uninteresting to anyone else.

It was good to see you today! I sure do like you.

Well, I'm not as regular as others, but I'll give you this tip.

Look back at the last week and tell me about something that stood out. It sounds a bit simple, but the wisdom for me is to only look back one week. Without that finite period the task seems too overwhelming. No way can I tell you everything that's stood out since I last blogged, but only looking back 7 days is doable. (Those of us who sometimes go long periods between posts know this pressure.)

Don't feel like you have to blow it up with every post, just tell me something that to you stood out.

If you could just tell us the predictable stuff that would be cool. I think it is easy to feel as though you must impress to post. Trust me, with my writing skills I am just going for - could you understand the words on the blog page? Are they in English? The fact of the matter is that there are a lot of people who love you and Drew, take me for instance. And since our lives are so busy and we find harder each day to connect, I will take what you call "predictable" because for me it is precious insights to the lives of two people I think are very cool. And if all that I just said fails, you are a school teacher for goodness sakes. I know you have children you could "change their names to protect their identities" and write about. Come on AJ - lets get busy. :-)

I agree with Steve - you have a treasure trove of stories within your little classroom of munchkins! Other ideas: where'd you go this weekend?...what are your plans & dreams for the future? (you know, Uganda comes to mind)...did you read anything or see anything that caught your attention?...family stories?...traditions?...

Don't worry so much about entertaining us, your beloved readers. We just want to know what's going on with you and what affects you!

I do pretty much the oposite of what you said.

Instead of sitting down at the computer and trying to think of something to blog, I'm always on the lookout for things that I want to blog about.

My criterion is: Would I want to tell my friends about this.

Remember back in college days, when you would come back to your room or see some people in the cafeteria - what would you tell them about? That's what your friends are interested in.

I've got a favorites folder that I save interesting links for the sole purpose of posting. I've only used maybe 1/3 of them, but there are over 20 in there right now. That's about 7-8 posts that wouldn't otherwise exist had I not done that. I also like to link to other people's blogs and use their posts to influence and create new ideas.

Except the one I just did. I stole it from Adam.

Oh yeah...since I never see you or Andrew anymore, ordinary things would make me not miss hanging out with you as much.

Okay, bro. But you have to admit that I did get my story telling ablities from our mother (no offense, mom).
Some of my kinder kids are better story tellers than I am. I have the imagination, I just can't get it to sound good on paper. :)

So Aimee Jo from Idaho...YOU are interesting. (and cool and cute and funny...)Here are some ideas:
Something that made me laugh today...
Something that will MOST DEFINITELY MAKE the trip to Uganda with me...
Something we own that I cannot WAIT to throw away...
Kid Moments...(a notable moment with a child that day)
My favorite memory with my grandmother, grandfather, sister, brother...
The time I ran over my dog/cat...:-) was it a dog or a cat?
My favorite Spades partner of all time (let it be me!)...
Sometimes, posting just one interesting tidbit keeps the "juices flowing". Blogs don't have to be naratives. Or brilliant...or funny...just thoughts. Check out all these comments girl. People love you.

Hi friend! I, too, struggle with wanting to be profound, funny, or in some way entertaining. It's a hard knock life for us!

I am very excited for you guys. At this rate I'm going to have as many friends in Uganda as I do in the U.S... Well, I might have a few more friends here but it's close!

There's quite a lot of packing here in Abilene. The Metcalf's are heading to Longview and we're heading to their old house in Sidney. It's nice to purge before a move. Chelan's about to have a garage sale. Hopefully she'll get rich!
