A Little Bit Freaked Out!!

Please tell me that it is normal to be experiencing these feelings!!

We have been taking Childbirth Preparation Classes at Salem Hospital, and they have been really, really great! I understand that the knowledge that we are receiving about labor, delivery, postpartum, and taking care of the baby is going to prove helpful; knowledge is power.

But, on the other hand, I feel like in this day and age, there are so many conflicting opinions on how to handle labor & delivery, how to feed your baby, how often to feed your baby, when to feed your baby, how much to feed your baby, how long your baby should sleep, where your baby should sleep, how to soothe your baby, how to teach your baby to soothe him/herself, and on and on and on....

I feel overwhelmed by all this information and am honestly scared to death to be a parent--I mean, what if I really screw up our baby girl for life?? I already take my role as a parent very seriously; I also know that I tend to take myself too seriously sometimes, so I probably run the risk of doing that with my child(ren).

Any advice for a soon mom-to-be??

Aimee jo,
We have done it four times and surprisingly I got more nervous each time, not less. Each child is unique and different things will work for them. I know that you will be a fantastic mother. I always lived by the motto that no one else knows what is good for me or my baby. If you want to cuddle them to sleep everyday--go ahead, she's your first. I have also found that most of the things that I stressed out about during the end of my pregnancy ended up being just fine once the baby came. It must be all the hormones or something.

I'm not a mommy, but when it comes to being a daddy, God seems to provide all sorts of help and natural instinct. It just happens. Common sense takes over and you do what needs to be done. Sure there are times you wish you could make the little one happy, but they just have too much gas or something like that. Then they turn 2 and you feel like hanging them by their little toe.

Well I just lost a very long comment I was trying to post for you... I think I will leave another comment and then email you too at your myspace page...
Pray, Pray, Pray, thats my advice...the Lord will give you and Andrew wisdom and strength through every situation.
And I agree with Luke, by the time their 2, you do want to hang them by their toes, or duct tape them to a chair...Jotham is a very busy little guy- but what a joy he is :) They grow up too quick, so take tons of photos!

Girl, You are nervous and have too many ideas and want more advice? Your silly, but I know it is scary. I have seen you with lots and lots of kids, God gave you a special gift where little ones are concerned. You need to trust him and yourself. Of course you will make mistakes and be impatient and lose your temper, but it will not scar Aniah. No one can tell you anything that will make you feel ready or comfortable, and there is no way out, but that is the beauty of finding your own way. Something you can live with that is right for your family. I have complete faith in you and in God to support you when you need his strength to be yours. I Love you!!

No one has lied to you. You will be a great mom. Andrew will be a great dad. And God will continue to be a great God. You'll figure the hows and whens and whys of mothering. Ponder instead (not worry) how you will teach her to be a confident woman of faith, why you will teach her about the one true God, and when you will show her your wedding pictures and talk about how to love a man.

Listen to your "instincts" when it comes to your husband, you kids and your mission. Tim Onsomu once spoke in chapel. He said, "That little voice inside your head is not Jiminy Cricket. That is the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Listen to it."

Be confident in the guidance of the Spirit.

Much love to you!!
